Journal — September 2018

Istanbul's Coffee Department is nestled into the winding streets of Balat, the historical Jewish neighborhood on the European side of the city. Istanbul connects Asia and Europe; it was the crossroads of the spice route and the silk road. Coffee has been enjoyed there for centuries, and coffee is almost synonymous with Turkey in so many people's minds. Coffee Department is an exciting part of the country's growing speciality movement that is growing steady and fast. Coffee Department spent the last week of September at Istanbul Coffee Festival, and we are excited to be featuring them fresh off the buzz of their national competition week.
